MESSAGE

My research focuses on American literature from the Civil War to the present, particularly the Beat Generation writers, including Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, and Gary Snyder. I have written books and articles on these writers, and their work continues to influence people around the world. I hope to share with you an appreciation of the ways American culture is expressed in literature, music, and art. In my classes you will have plenty of opportunities to write, speak, and perform. Learning about literature and culture provides you with adventurous occasions to learn and grow.
